Frequently asked questions

Over Height Frames
What is an Over Height Frame?

An Over Height Frame is a special handling attachment used under a spreader to lift oversized, overheight and out of gauge containerized cargo, including flat racks, open top containers and platforms. It allows terminals to handle non-standard cargo more safely and efficiently.

What type of cargo can OHFrames handle?

OHFrames are designed for oversized containerized cargo such as flat racks, open top containers and platforms. They are especially useful when the cargo exceeds the standard height or dimensions of a regular container operation.

Which OHFrame model is right for my terminal?

The right model depends mainly on the intensity of your oversized cargo traffic. Fully automatic and reinforced automatic models are recommended for intense use, mechanical models are suitable for moderate traffic, and the manual model is designed for terminals with sporadic oversized cargo operations.

Are OHFrames compatible with all spreaders?

The universal OHFrame models are designed to be compatible with 100% of existing spreaders and cranes. For specific models, compatibility should always be checked according to the spreader type and the operational requirements of the terminal.

Do OHFrames require modifications to the spreader?

Some universal models can be used with ISO spreaders without extra modifications. However, certain mechanical models, such as the BA-030R, require latching plates on the spreader and the use of a Parking Stand to latch and unlatch the frame.

What is the lifting capacity of an OHFrame?

The OHFrame models shown on the website have a lifting capacity of 50 tons. The exact configuration may vary depending on the selected model, size and terminal requirements.

What is the difference between automatic, mechanical and manual OHFrames?

Automatic OHFrames use an electric mechanism to lock and unlock the twistlocks automatically. Mechanical models offer a simpler autonomous solution for moderate traffic, while the manual model requires the twistlocks to be opened or locked manually by pulling chains.

Are OHFrames certified?

OHFrames include CE certification, use and maintenance instructions, and are designed according to EN 13155:2003 + A2:2009. Bureau Veritas individual load test certificates are also available on request for several models.

Do you provide onsite training?

Yes. Onsite training courses are available, together with use and maintenance instructions, to help terminal teams operate and maintain the equipment correctly.

Can OHFrames be customised?

Yes. OHFrames can be customised with the customer’s logo and colour scheme. Some models also offer different sizes, fixed or telescopic versions, and custom free heights upon request.

Are OHFrames easy to transport?

Several OHFrame models are available in a demounted version to make transport easier. The reinforced automatic model can also be delivered inside a 40ft HC container, helping to reduce transport costs.

Do automatic OHFrames require an external power supply?

The fully automatic models are powered by solar panels and batteries. The reinforced automatic model includes a solar installation, batteries, charging connector and internal battery charger.
